Green Business Spotlight

In our August newsletter, WFCC provided information on ways to 'take your business green.' We promised to provide you with good news about area businesses that were helping lead the way in environmental responsibility with Green Business Spotlights. Join us as we salute the following Chamber members for their commitment to the environment.

Wake Forest Library

Going “green” is not new to the Wake Forest Library. The library has been recycling newspapers, magazines, white office paper and cardboard for many years. To be more environmentally friendly, they recently discontinued handing out plastic bags to patrons and now encourage the purchase of the “Friends of the Wake Forest Library” tote bags. These proceeds support the Friends’ group who in turn support the library. It’s a win-win for the library and the environment!

Novozymes

Novozymes is a world leader in industrial enzymes and microorganisms, and currently commands 46 percent of the world market for enzymes and 50 percent of the world market for microorganisms. The company has 4,900 employees worldwide with main production sites in the U.S., China and Denmark.

At Novozymes, sustainability development is an integral part of their promise to “Rethink Tomorrow” where they continuously strive to achieve the balance between better business, cleaner environment, and better lives.

Novozymes offers bioinnovative and sustainable solutions that enhance energy savings, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and in many processes replace chemicals with natural enzymes – as proven through their product life cycle assessments (LCAs). Solutions are both cost-effective and sustainable, helping businesses face the challenges of today while preparing them to meet the needs of tomorrow. The company is frequently recognized for its leadership role in sustainability. In 2006, the National Academy of Sciences in Washington awarded Novozymes and Archer Daniels Midland Company with the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award – an award given for outstanding achievements by using green chemistry to improve the environment.

To ensure compliance and accountability across the global organization, Novozymes has developed a comprehensive governance system, which guides the company in everything they think, say, and do.
